share your care

On 18 March 2010 I saw this infant boy coming out of the Operation Theatre & moving in to NICU ward. Then I remembered seeing them come to our eye camp at Barsana. The very next day he was able to see fully for the first time in his life....... He became so active suddenly seeing his parents & world around him. So sad that there are so many cases that remain blind just because of cataract or other curable blindness.
This boy is Krishna Bairagi (FATHER SURESHCHANDRA BAIRAGI (GOPAL DAS) & MOTHER MAMTA BAIRAGI from ADDRESS : PITU KA NAGLA, TAHSIL-UCHHAIN, POST-BHESA, DIST.- BHARATPUR, STATE : UTTAR PRADESH. DATE OF BIRTH : 26th.JUNE,2009.)

This year we have done over 754 cataract surgeries at the Barsana eye camp. Over 24 cases were brought to Bhaktivedanta Hospital since their surgery is not possible at the camp set up for need of total general anesthesia.

I have uploaded many pictures from this camp on this group & also some on our website http://www.barsanaeyecamp.com/photogalleries/barsanaeyecamp2010

Thank you very much for all your kind support & generous donations to make it happen.

Regards,
Amol.

Old Age homes, Childen homes

I am wondering since few days that is it possible that we can get a full list of old age homes in and out of mumbai, children homes and other places who keep requiring resources.

If any one has such a list, then do provide me the link or mail it to sachinsomaiya2005@gmail.com

Post acquiring the list, my rough idea is to create a network, and find out wht resources they require and avail those.

If there is any NGO which is already doing this , please tell me about them.

Hoping to get a response.

'My river' is the theme of the competition

Excerpts from http://nilafoundation.org/sketches.htm -

What was once the life line of Kerala, is today a decaying, dying river. It is out of concern for Bharatapuzha (River Nila): the erosion of the river banks, the dilution of its culture, neglect and depletion of its resources - that the Nila Foundation was formed five years ago in Kerala.

Titled, 'Puzha Malayalam', the 400-page book is looking at a participatory model where people from different spheres of life join us in the publication of the book. As a small step towards this, we are inviting interested people through a
drawing competition from across the world to sketch the introductory pages of the fourteen chapters.

'My river' is the theme of the competition. This could be a reflection of your insights or experiences associated with rivers. This could be about rivers from any parts of the world. Use your imagination to show the role of rivers played in your life.

The winners of 14 entries will also get an opportunity to have an experiential holiday for a week along Bharatapuzha (River Nila) that gives insights into its culture, folk art forms, history, people and life.

Last date for receiving the sketch is 25th April 2010.

NGO near Mumbai Needs Help on Bakery Recipes

There is an NGO near Mumbai (Karnala Panchayat, Panvel Taluka, Raigad) named Yusuf Meharally Center. This NGO has a bakery in which they produce some bakery products including bread, cookies and rusk (toats). This bakery is run by people from nearby villages, and the products are sold locally / in Panvel.

The NGO is facing the following requirements pertaining to the bakery:

a. The bread manufactured by them expires in one day. They need to know the technique to manufacture bread that lasts long (4-5 days).

b. They know very few recipes of making cookies, currently they manufacture only 3-4 types of cookies. They want to know more recipes.

c. They want to know what other products they can manufacture in their bakery.

The NGO uses a fire-wood fuelled oven. They require marketing support and technological updragation; however, the first problem that needs to be solved is regarding the recipes.

A volunteer, who has experience in making good bakery products is required (preferably from Mumbai) is required to solve their problem.

About a Dance Therapy Organisation in Calcutta

Posted by Jamuna on http://artyeast.blogspot.com/2010/02/dancing-into-empowermentdancing-towards_26.html

Excerpts:

In a verdant and quiet lane in South Kolkata, surrounded by delightfully named landmarks such as Dasnagar Pujor Math and Jodhpur Bazaar, gracefully sits a haven that nurtures many lives and souls through the art of dancing and movement. The haven is Kolkata Sanved, an organization steering towards excellence in Dance Therapy in Asia.

The team at Kolkata Sanved, supported by resource persons and advisors, dedicates itself to the exploration of dance and movement as an alternative therapeutic approach for the recovery, healing and psychosocial rehabilitation of victims of violence and trafficking, mental health patients, people suffering from HIV/AIDS and also mainstream school children. It strives towards engaging civil society and the government in generating awareness and policy changes on issues of health, education, trafficking, sexual violence, and HIV/AIDS. Kolkata Sanved relies on the powerful medium of dance to convey and communicate messages of social importance to the masses who may not necessarily want to read pamphlets, posters or listen to speeches.

It is invaluably insightful to sense what movement can do to our bodies, where, how much and how! It is nothing less than a magical feeling, the assurance of being "beautiful", "capable" and "powerful" that comes with allowing one's body to move and sway, swing and hang, turn and twist! As a facilitator, I have experimented with creative methodologies such as role-playing, story-telling, collage-making, painting and puppetry.

This video is an excellent glimpse into the rhythmic and harmonious endeavors of Kolkata Sanved...

They are inspiring in their moves and display skills of being excellent facilitators who encourage self-acceptance, healing, confidence and empowerment in the groups they work with. Through its curriculum, "Sampurnata", men and women are trained to become future leaders who will implement dance therapy in their own communities.

Sanved has been the winner of the prestigious "Beyond Sport" award in the "Best Project for Health" category for the year 2009. While it wins accolades and mentions in the press, its real accolades remain the unique joy experienced by people as they discover the harmony and rhythm hidden in their own bodies, the beauty of there being and acknowledgement of the power that lies within.

A COMPLETE SEVA HEAVEN

A COMPLETE SEVA HEAVEN

I have visited several Seva Places in my HOH career....but Sai Dham is one of a kind !
The Founder , Mr Moti Lal is a true AMBASSADOR OF SEVA ! I felt very humble in his presence.
This Selfless, Seva Daari has created a complete SEVA HEAVEN KINGDOM, in Faridabad........
Several years ago....this place was a jungle. These children were aimless, wandering vagabonds with nothing to do ..cept steal. Mr Motilal had a Divine Calling to build a Sai Temple in this area. He built a temple and noticed to his frustration that these kids would STORM into the temple for prasad. They would CHEAT ..by exchanging their clothes with each other ..just for a second helping. They would steal shoes, chappals..sell it for food !
At first Mr MotiLal was angry....but then he realized that these children were HUNGRY !! It was HUNGER...that motivated them to steal . He then experienced his second Divine Calling ...and SAI DHAM was created ....a SEVA HEAVEN..where every need of a human being is taken care off...food, clothing, education, vocational training, medical care, dental care, holistic, yoga, mass marriages..etc etc

My childhood friend Suniti and myself visited Sai Dham on Thursday, Feb4
When we entered Sai Dham..we were both struck my the cleanliness......it was SPOTLESS....not a speck of dust ..even if you tried to find ( 100% TQM)
The children were all GLOWING ( Suniti's words)...with healthy faces. They had shiny polished shoes and well groomed hands and fingernails. I was told that Mr MotiLal provides tooth past, boot polish, combs, nail cutters to the families along with clean, ironed uniforms.
Mr Motilal only believes in EXCELLENCE ...
Under 50% marks is FAIL
Under 80% attendance is FAIL !
That explains the 100% pass rate in his school.
His staff will en quire....bring the parents...question them....understand the situation....and find solutions ! He is a PROBLEM SOLVER ....they are persistent. I could FEEL their dedication and commitment.
Breakfast and lunch is served in this school. Many of the kids dont get dinner when they go back home.
Mr Gupta told me about a heart wrenching story ....
One boy kept stuffing food during lunch time..till he became physically ill !They asked him..."why are you eating so much"?
His answer..." my father is a garbage picker who earns Rs 40-50/day. Most days he comes home drunk and beats the mom. Those days we all sleep hungry"
After that day......Mr Motilal started serving a very wholesome breakfast to the school.
THE 3 ORPHANS
They are 7,9 and 11yrs old. ....abs adorable kids ....youngest is a girl . Their father had been bedridden for 2 yrs....and died last year. After his death..the mom committed suicide .When Mr Motilal found out this tragedy.... he immediately took care of EVERY NEED ...including entertainment like TV, toys etc.
These kids live with their aunt who is employed as a teacher in the school. My hear melted when I saw their sweet faces.... how much pain/torment have these kids gone through? ....
They seemed all very happy .. the boys want to join the police force.
I learned from the staff there, about Mr Gupta's amazing kindness... he is considered a GOD that descended in this area.
COUNSELING OF PARENTS
Suniti and myself witnessed the counseling of the illiterate parents. Even the parents are provided with clothing and are given entertainment ..like picnic /sightseeing trips! The moms all showed me the sarees that they were wearing is given by Sai Dham . Mr Gupta believes in providing harmony in the families...for the kids to max their potential .
FREE MEDICAL CLINIC
Is in the compound along with a FREE DENTAL CLINIC ... the first of its kind that I have seen in any Seva place .
In India...who cares about the teeth of destitute kids and their families??
I am impressed .... Mr Gupta has thought about EVERY THING... the WHOLESOME approach to SEVA !
MASS MARRIAGES
This is mind blowing !! I have never witnessed any thing like that in my life . Suniti and myself , entered a room where ladies were busy packing suitcases with STUFF !. this STUFF... included all household items ..from bedding, utensils, pressure cooker ..tooth brush ..etc etc...name it ..it was there . Every thing one needs to START LIFE . Even a cycle is provided for the man .They conduct upto 10-25 marriages at one time....abs amazing !ss
THE COMPUTER LAB
There were at least 20 computers..in this spacious room, with 3-4 kids per computer. This is one area where they need major HELP .. All the computers are outdated ....

THE CULTURAL PROGRAM
Suniti and myself witnessed a lovely program conducted by the kids . They showed their dancing skills..but above all I was mighty impressed by their YOGA SKILLS ..... which is a major part of the curriculum
Overall .. it was a very spiritual experience for Suniti And myself. Suniti went back completely TRANSFORMED ..
We both felt very HUMBLED by this NO NONSENSE SEVA DAARI...Mr Gupta ..the Founder of SAI DHAM !
Thank you Rita ... for giving me this opportunity to witness such high quality , superior SEVA ..... which would get a TQM SCORE of over 100%
